Speaker:

Speaker:

With that said, let's get started with 10 minutes of tennis.

Speaker:

Today is 10 minutes of tennis with World Renowned Tennis Coach Australian in Puerto Rico, Justin

Speaker:

Yeo.

Speaker:the Miami ATP and WTA Masters:Speaker:

We're going to do a little wrap up.

Speaker:

Chat about all the ways Justin was right.

Speaker:

Maybe he was wrong about something that might never know.

Speaker:

So Justin, Sabelenka, you were right.

Speaker:

Mensik, I don't think anybody saw that coming.

Speaker:

Sabelenka just knew she was going to be bouncing back and pounding even harder after losing

Speaker:

Indian Wells.

Speaker:

There was a guarantee, absolute guarantee unless she was injured.

Speaker:

But even injuries, how do you lose some two sets and 40 minutes on a court, which is half

Speaker:

the time some of these ladies matches are all over for her.

Speaker:

So she was going to come through, I thought, and punish the field and get her revenge for

Speaker:

Indian Wells.

Speaker:

The young girl didn't make it all the way.

Speaker:

But as we've had a podcast before, I said there's a new wave.

Speaker:

We're going to see a lot of variation of ins and outs and ones and twos and top 10 and

Speaker:

top 20.

Speaker:

We're seeing a lot of movement on both sides.

Speaker:

But that's the women side, the men side.

Speaker:

Exactly what I said, there's going to be a lot of movement.

Speaker:

I'm not saying the outward with with Jockovich because I thought he was going to take out this

Speaker:

title.

Speaker:

He looked good, he looked fit.

Speaker:

He looks really strong right now.

Speaker:

But you and I mentioned it, maybe the strength of these young boys are just faster and stronger

Speaker:

and just a little bit quicker and he's starting to feel it.

Speaker:

It does seem to me like the days when Abby C. was on his way out and Sam Press was on his

Speaker:

way out and Andy Ruddick was on his way out.

Speaker:

They just seemed to be over, they just got toppled over and then eventually said, well,

Speaker:

nothing else enough.

Speaker:

And that's what it sort of feels like at the moment with no doubt.

Speaker:

But man, that guy is determined to keep going and he looks so fit.

Speaker:

So that's why we'll see what happens in the French and Wimbledon in the US and I think

Speaker:

that's what he's going to do.

Speaker:

He's going to see out the whole year with Andy giving his best shot.

Speaker:

He doesn't get a title or they'll reassess and then figure out from there.

Speaker:

But, man, sick, well, that's an interesting one.

Speaker:

And the reason why I say it's an interesting one is the, we'll call him a boy, the boy admitted

Speaker:

to withdrawing from the tournament before the tournament started.

Speaker:

And in the end, because the referee was having lunch, he didn't hand in the form, got the

Speaker:

physio to come out and work on his knee and the guy wins the Miami Open.

Speaker:

I mean, talk about some news right now.

Speaker:

It's all over the news this morning.

Speaker:

And if you go back, I don't know, 10 years, 20 years, no one would admit that you had an

Speaker:

injury before you started the tournament.

Speaker:

So that's coming out a lot now, because even when Nadal had the foot problems at the French

Speaker:

and he continued, everyone said he was having problems and everyone problems.

Speaker:

It ended up being, he won the French with bad feet, foot problems.

Speaker:

So I don't know what that physio gave to this guy's knee, but he said that he struggled to

Speaker:

walk or run on a treadmill with his knee and in turns away, I don't know when's the

Speaker:

Miami Open.

Speaker:

So that to me is something that should be talked about absolutely because love to know what

Speaker:

the physio did.

Speaker:

Yeah, is that one of those backhanded self-complementes though?

Speaker:

He was like, well, I wasn't even thinking about playing this one because I was a little bit

Speaker:

injured, but we all know how that turned out.

Speaker:

No, he had the paper filled in.

Speaker:

He was ready to hand in the slip and call it a day because his knee was that sole before

Speaker:

the tournament started.

Speaker:

And he announced it publicly in the speech afterwards.

Speaker:

So instead of talking about all these accolations and everything else, he mentioned the story of

Speaker:

how lucky he is to be right where he is today, right now with a trophy when he actually had

Speaker:

the withdrawal slip in his hand.

Speaker:

He said he thinks his coach has got it somewhere and he's going to try and frame that one.

Speaker:

Definitely.

Speaker:

So, but again, the story continues.

Speaker:

We're seeing a wave of players coming in and out on the men's side too.

Speaker:

So I think it's fun.

Speaker:

It's interesting.

Speaker:

It's going to keep the spectators intrigued and not sure who's going to show up on the day

Speaker:

and who's going to come out and what tickets will be bought, you know, because sometimes

Speaker:

we used to buy tickets waiting for the final, semi-final, quarter final or the final because

Speaker:

that's when the top three or the big three would come in and play and you'd see the biggest

Speaker:

best of five or best of three matches.

Speaker:

Now, I think people are going to be coming at any time because now they're going to look

Speaker:

for men's ago in the draw.

Speaker:

They're going to look for all these players that are just like now, everyone could shine

Speaker:

and it be a good match to watch.

Speaker:

Well, that's my question.

Speaker:

What does this do for tennis?

Speaker:

If we say this is good for tennis because we don't just assume there's a Rafa Roger final.

Speaker:

We don't just assume Novak's going to be there or it's only going to be center Alcaraz.

Speaker:

You don't really know.

Speaker:

And I think that's been a bit of what's happened to the women's tour, sent you a post-Sarena

Speaker:

where we're not really sure what's going on.

Speaker:

Look at you said the young girl didn't make it through.

Speaker:

You're talking about her in Dreeva who lost in, I think the fourth round this time, but

Speaker:

she won the doubles.

Speaker:

So you do have the stars that are there.

Speaker:

Coco's not going to win every match.

Speaker:

None of these people are going to win every match.

Speaker:

And that's my question.

Speaker:

What does this do for tennis to say?

Speaker:

Okay, do ticket sales kind of spread out?

Speaker:

Do the prices of tickets of the finals maybe go down?

Speaker:

How does that affect the business?

Speaker:

Do we even know?

Speaker:

I don't know how that works.

Speaker:

Tickets were changed.

Speaker:

Pricing is pricing.

Speaker:

It's a semi-final of one of the biggest stage.

Speaker:

It's a final of one of the biggest stage, depending on the tournament.

Speaker:

But I don't really make sales go down.

Speaker:

I don't see it changing.

Speaker:

I just think where I'd say it's good for tennis is there's a wave of players all starting

Speaker:

to shine.

Speaker:

We can't seem to pick who's going to sit on top.

Speaker:

There is the controversy though.

Speaker:

Maybe Sinner could have won both of them if he was playing right now.

Speaker:

So that could be probably, but at the moment, he's the only one that sort of has shown any

Speaker:

kind of dominance over everybody and he's out right now.

Speaker:

And that brings more controversy.

Speaker:

What was he doing?

Speaker:

Maybe he was doing something that everyone's saying he wasn't or he was.

Speaker:

So there's a lot of weight going on in the news around Sinner and maybe he's got all these

Speaker:

titles and he's dominating because maybe he's on something.

Speaker:

But I don't know.

Speaker:

It doesn't seem right to me.

Speaker:

It seems normal that these are things that go in and out of players.

Speaker:

And I think tennis right now we're seeing a lot on mouth and female in and out on the 10s

Speaker:

and the 20s.

Speaker:

And we're going to see 50s, like people in the 50s, like I mean he was 50, rag 54 and he won

Speaker:

the Miami Open.

Speaker:

Yeah, I didn't see that.

Speaker:

It didn't happen.

Speaker:

Yeah, so it's, I find it's interesting.

Speaker:

I think it's cool as you have been for 20 years, we've been dominating, dominating with three

Speaker:

players mostly all the time and waiting for the finals to watch something cool and not really

Speaker:

watching the first round matches because you just know you've stuff's coming at the end.

Speaker:

And now you've got to be on and you've got to be ready to watch so that ups, ups, tennis,

Speaker:

tennis, tennis, calm or tennis channel because people are going to be looking for those

Speaker:

specific names now that everyone's popping up.

Speaker:

So I think it's, I think it's tennis is in a really cool place right now for me anyway because

Speaker:

even as a fettower, I still strut all, he's not in the draw, he's not playing anymore,

Speaker:

but I'm starting to get a little more alive now because there's so many players now to

Speaker:

be see and watch and to see what they're delivering and how they're playing.

Speaker:

The variety is huge.

Speaker:

I think the one thing we're not picking up on enough and the data is proving it is how

Speaker:

far they're back into court and then eventually how close they are to the baseline.

Speaker:

And then on top of that, what they aren't showing enough of is the height over the net and

Speaker:

the height of the bounce, which is something that they should be trying to present to people

Speaker:

I think because we've even seen Jacovi cheating balls that are bouncing around the service

Speaker:

box, but they can't attack them because it's got so much height and spin on it.

Speaker:

So the variety is really coming out.

Speaker:

And I think Andy really picking on Jacovi's to hit slice and take the pace off.

Speaker:

So that's another interesting thing I saw in this tournament.

Speaker:

Yeah, it didn't work out well for him in the final, but a little more slice.

Speaker:

I was looking at that the other day looking at some statistics and yet two guys playing

Speaker:

I don't remember who it was and they were both 7% and 6% and 4% slice and then the next match

Speaker:

was Dimitraff and we all know what that means, 38% slice.

Speaker:

And you just think, are we losing that and that's probably, I'm probably 20 years late asking

Speaker:

that question because yeah, a lot of it's gone.

Speaker:

Yeah, well, maybe Andy's preparing for the clay or preparing for Wimbledon, right?

Speaker:

I mean, I've got to start working on it at the highest level to be able to know how you

Speaker:

can perform and work it.

Speaker:

But I don't think I've ever seen Jacovi's hit so many slice backends, especially when

Speaker:

it was in his bread basket, in his zone and he would take the pace off intentionally, which

Speaker:

is definitely an Andy trick that they were working on.

Speaker:

And you need to, I mean, how often does he get to get on that stage and practice that there?

Speaker:

So they've got experiment in the zone at times and that was one of the interesting things

Speaker:

to see him doing some of these slice backends.

Speaker:

I agree.

Speaker:
