Tennis Tip: 4 Reasons to Try 2 Back to Win More Matches

In this episode of the Atlanta Tennis Podcast, powered by GoTennis, listen as USPTA certified tennis pro Rob Carver shares his expert tip on how to serve more effectively in doubles. Rob introduces the “Two Back” formation, a game-changing strategy to help you and your partner succeed when returning serves. Whether you’re up against a powerful server or a dynamic net player, this tip will give you an edge.

Meet Rob Carver!

Rob Carver is the author of 366 Days of Tennis, a book filled with a tip for every day of the year to elevate your tennis game. Drawing on his vast coaching experience, Rob’s “Two Back” technique offers a fresh approach for any doubles team looking to mix up their strategy.

Insights You Will Gain

  • Facing Strong Servers: Learn how the “Two Back” formation can help neutralize powerful serves in doubles, giving you a better chance to break serve.
  • Combat Active Net Players: Discover how this strategy is also effective against aggressive net players who dominate points.
  • Turn the Match Around: When you and your partner are losing, changing up your formation can disrupt your opponents’ rhythm and turn the tide in your favor.
  • Close Game Tactics: When the match is tight, such as at 4-3 in the second set, switching to the “Two Back” formation can surprise your opponents and keep you competitive.

Try This on the Court!

Next time you’re on the court, give the “Two Back” formation a try and see if it helps you and your partner break serve more often. As Carver says, sometimes all it takes is a different look to win those crucial points!

Hi, I'm Rob Carver, author of the book,

Speaker:

366 Days of Tennis, a tip a day to improve your game.

Speaker:

And today I got a great tip to help you and your partner

Speaker:

break serve more when you're returning serve, plain doubles.

Speaker:

The formation known as two back.

Speaker:

You should try this when you're facing a very strong server.

Speaker:

You can also try it when you're facing

Speaker:

a very active net player.

Speaker:

The third time you wanna try is if you're in your partner

Speaker:

or losing, you wanna give them a different formation.

Speaker:

Maybe the serving team will change their strategy

Speaker:

and you guys will win.

Speaker:

The fourth time you can do it is when the score is close,

Speaker:

like four, three, and the second set,

Speaker:

and you wanna just give them a different look.

Speaker:

Try two back at different times of the match

Speaker:

and see if it works better than playing

Speaker:

the traditional one up one back.

Speaker:

As always, have a great day and hang tough.
